According to a report, the state’s unclaimed money department returned a record $18 million to Mainers in the last fiscal year with the average claim nearly $700. The total continues to grow by tens of millions annually despite these record return numbers. In that same fiscal year the state added $27.4 million.

The state of Maine offers a free searchable database. Results include a claim ID which can be used to check the status of a claim which can take several weeks to process. The results also contain the name the claim is under as well as the company or organization that reported it.
