Minnesota unclaimed money
Minnesota has hundreds of millions in unclaimed money and property

Minnesota unclaimed money totals are harder to find. Our research dates back to 2015 when the total was $705 million. Based on average increases, we estimate the state totals to be close to the $1 billion mark. The Minnesota unclaimed property program was first established in 1969 to safeguard lost money and property until its rightful owner claimed it.

Minnesota’s unclaimed money website offers a searchable database. Simply type in your name and the results will populate below. The results show many details of the claim including the claim ID, name, address as well as the range of the amount the state is holding. Below most results also include who has reported the missing money as well as the type of unclaimed property it is.

Once you identify the claim, you add it to the cart. This way you can identify multiple claims if they exist which makes claiming several accounts much faster. Once you get to the cart, you fill out the required information then click create claim. Once the claim is created you can check the status of the claim using the claim ID and last name on the account.

Minnesota Unclaimed Money Auctions

Minnesota, like many states has started auctions for its tangible unclaimed property. According to the state law, any unclaimed property that has gone unclaimed by institutions for five years must be turned over to the state. From that point, the state has a minimum of three years it must store the property. After that period of time, the state can hold an online auction to empty its vault. All proceeds of these sales do stay with the original owners, as they would receive every dollar from their unclaimed property.
