Kansas Unclaimed Money

Kansas unclaimed money
Kansas is currently holding over $350 million in unclaimed money and property

Kansas unclaimed money totals exceed $350 million in cash and property. Last fiscal year treasurer Jake LaTurner and his team returned a record $27.1 million to its rightful owners through outreach and their online search system on the treasurer’s website. Since July 2018 the state has returned over $34 million with 1.4 million searches performed. The average claim during that time was just under $250.

Kansas has a searchable database online like most states, but they have some small differences. You can use full names, or just first initials to search for either yourself or a deceased relative. The results show the name the claim is under, last known address as well as the description of the cash or property and who reported it to the state. No dollar amounts are provided in the search results. Once a claim is started there is a way to check on the website the status of the claim. All you need is the 18 digit number associated with the claim.

Kansas Provides Unclaimed Money Assistance

Kansas is one of the few states that offers live support in searching for its residents. You can call their office during business hours and the unclaimed money team will actually search for you! This service is offered at no cost, unlike some unclaimed money finders who will charge you a percentage of the claim.

This state also holds auctions throughout the year to empty its unclaimed property vaults of recovered items that it is holding for Kansas residents. These items range from gold coins to rings and even an old pocket watch from 1908. Don’t worry though if these items are yours and you search for them after they’re sold. The state holds the proceeds in accounts with the original property owners name so they get all the cash from the sale.
