Georgia Holds Over $1 Billion In Unclaimed Money

Unclaimed money in Georgia totals over $1 billion in cash and property. The state has an online searchable database for looking up claims. Simply put in your last name (or business name), which is required, and click search. If you have a generic last name we recommend putting in a first initial as a search strategy for narrowing the results.

Claims are listed by property ID with the name the account is under, the town, state and zip code. Just below the name of the account holder, it does show who the property was reported by. Unlike most states, Georgia does not list any information regarding the amount of money that is owed, however all accounts listed are typically over $50.

Georgia Unclaimed Money Claim Process

In order to put a claim in for an account, you must first identify yourself as either the owner of the account, business (if an account is for a business), or the rightful heir or executor for an account holder who has passed away. You cannot have a friend claim for you. Unclaimed money finders are allowed in Georgia, but their fee is set at 10% of the total claim. Once a claim is filed you can use the claim ID to check its status.

Georgia does also offer phone support Monday through Friday from 8am-4:30pm. You can also email the unclaimed property division if you have any questions regarding a claim.
